Dr. Jean Mitchell, Professor of Anthropology and Sociology, has been renewed as the UNESCO Chair in Island Studies and Sustainability at the ºÚÁÏ³Ô¹Ï until December 2028.

| Chaplaincy Centre

The ºÚÁÏ³Ô¹Ï Chaplaincy Centre, with the help of ºÚÁÏ³Ô¹Ï Experiential Education, recently recruited a volunteer coordinator and a team of student volunteers to take care of “Saint Dunstan’s Gardens†through the summer months and into early fall.

From May 22 to 24, 2025, ºÚÁÏ³Ô¹Ï proudly hosted ChemCon 2025, an annual conference held in conjunction with Science Atlantic for undergraduate and graduate chemistry students in Atlantic Canada.

On May 1, 2025, Dr. Jane Ngobia began her new position as Vice-President, People and Culture (VPPC) at ºÚÁÏ³Ô¹Ï with a focus on inclusive leadership, organizational development, and community engagement. The VPPC role encompasses Human Resources (HR); Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Human Rights (EDIHR); and Legal Affairs.

Dr. Jeffrey Collins, adjunct professor, Institute of Island Studies, ºÚÁϳԹÏ, was invited to Australia in May 2025 as part of a paid study tour on Indo-Pacific security and closer Australian-Canadian defence ties.

The Atlantic Veterinary College congratulates Dr. Sunny Hartwig on being appointed Editor-in-Chief of the Canadian Journal of Kidney Health and Disease, the official journal of the Canadian Society of Nephrology.

Dr. Jay Penney, associate professor and Canada Research Chair in Biomedical Genetics at the Atlantic Veterinary College has been awarded a three-year research grant to study a newly discovered genetic mutation linked to Parkinson’s disease.
