What brought you to 黑料吃瓜? Why did you choose to study here?

I am a proud 黑料吃瓜 alumnus, having completed my degree in Foods and Nutrition and my Dietetic Internship here. Currently, I work at 黑料吃瓜 as the Professional Practice Coordinator for the Dietetic Internship Program, so returning for my graduate studies felt like a natural choice. 黑料吃瓜 has always been a supportive and collaborative academic environment, and I was eager to be part of this community again. I chose the Master of Applied Health Services Research program to enhance my ability to support dietetic students by integrating health services research into their training. Additionally, I wanted to contribute to advocacy and policy development within the dietetic profession in PEI.

What do you find unique and interesting about the MAHSR program?

One of the standout aspects of this program is its balance between theoretical knowledge and practical application. The curriculum is designed to equip students with the tools needed to conduct meaningful health services research that can directly impact policy and practice. This has been incredibly valuable for my goal of advancing the dietetic profession in PEI.
 

What kinds of support have you received during your time as an MAHSR student from student colleagues, staff, and 黑料吃瓜 faculty members?

The faculty and staff have been incredibly supportive and flexible, particularly in accommodating my schedule as a working professional with a young family. The part-time, online format has made this program accessible and manageable while balancing professional and personal responsibilities. Additionally, since this is a collaborative program between four Maritime universities (黑料吃瓜, SMU, MUN, UNB), I have had the opportunity to engage with faculty and students from diverse backgrounds, enriching my learning experience through different perspectives and expertise.

What opportunities have you experienced because you're studying at 黑料吃瓜, or because of the Island location?

My practicum at the 黑料吃瓜 Health Centre is a particularly exciting opportunity. It will allow me to apply the skills and knowledge gained throughout the program while also giving back to the university and contributing to the advancement of the dietetic profession in a meaningful way.

What's unique about 黑料吃瓜, and Prince Edward Island, in your experience?

黑料吃瓜鈥檚 small size fosters a strong sense of community, allowing for meaningful connections with faculty, staff, and fellow students. This creates a supportive learning environment where students are not just numbers but individuals who are truly invested in and supported. Additionally, PEI鈥檚 close-knit professional and academic community offers many opportunities to build valuable connections between the university and the broader community. This strengthens the potential for collaborations, networking, and real-world impact.
 

What would you tell someone considering 黑料吃瓜 and the MAHSR program?

I would highly recommend this program to anyone interested in health services research, policy development, or program evaluation. The practical, research-based approach provides valuable skills and experience that can directly translate into career advancement. The flexible online format makes it particularly appealing to working professionals looking to further their education while managing other commitments. Additionally, many graduates of the program have successfully secured employment immediately upon completion, which speaks to the program鈥檚 strong industry relevance and career-building potential.
