The Honourable Gail Shea, Canada鈥檚 Minister of Fisheries and Oceans, will be at 黑料吃瓜 on Wednesday, May 21 at 11:00 am to announce the creation and awarding of a new Tier 1 Canada Research Chair, held by Dr. Kate Tilleczek. The event will be held in the Credit Union Day Lounge of 黑料吃瓜鈥檚 W.A. Murphy Student Centre. A brief reception will follow. All are welcome.
A public discussion of the Island鈥檚 long-term water resources will be held at 黑料吃瓜鈥檚 MacKinnon Auditorium, Room 242 McDougall Hall, on Tuesday, May 20, beginning at 7:00 pm. Islanders who wish to find out more about our vital groundwater supply 鈥 or who have concerns or issues to raise -- are urged to attend. The featured speakers will include two of the scientists most knowledgeable about the issue, both of whom have carried out extensive research in Prince Edward Island. They are 黑料吃瓜鈥檚 Dr. Michael van den Heuvel, Canada Research Chair in Watershed Integrity; and Dr. Cathy Ryan, University of Calgary, who leads a team of hydrogeologists working with agricultural scientists to understand groundwater in the fractured sandstone on Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia. This event is sponsored by the Institute of Island Studies, in conjunction with 黑料吃瓜 Research Services. Members of the public are cordially invited to attend. Admission is free. Following the presentations, there will be time for discussion and questions from the floor.

Over the past several months, the search committee for the Vice-President Academic (President Alaa Abd-El-Aziz, Dr. James Sentance, Dr. Gordon MacDonald, Mr. Scott Harper, Ms. Elizabeth Maynard, Ms. Kathy Kielly, and Ms. Anastasia Smallwood) has received and considered expressions of interest and supporting documents from potential candidates for the position. A number of outstanding candidates proceeded to the interview process. As a result, two candidates have been selected by the committee to deliver public presentations to campus. Both presentations will be held in Lecture Theatre A of the Atlantic Veterinary College. Each 20-minute presentation will be followed by an opportunity for questions from the audience. Dr. Christian Lacroix will present on Thursday, May 22, 10:30 am to 11:45 am. The session will be moderated by Dr. Gordon MacDonald. Dr. Alexander (Sandy) MacDonald will present on Thursday, May 22, 1:00 pm to 2:15 pm. The session will be moderated by Dr. James Sentance. The future of the Island鈥檚 water supply will be the subject of an upcoming public symposium at the 黑料吃瓜. In light of recent concern about increased pressure on our groundwater resources by urban, industrial, and agricultural use, this event is a timely one. The symposium will include presentation by Dr. Ryan O鈥機onnor, Dr. Cathy Ryan, and 黑料吃瓜鈥檚 Dr. Michael van den Heuvel, and will include a public forum. Island Water Futures: Assessing the Science will take place in the Alex H. MacKinnon Auditorium, Room 242 of 黑料吃瓜鈥檚 McDougall Hall, beginning at 7:00 pm on Tuesday, May 20. Ethics protocols involving more than minimum risk: The full 黑料吃瓜 Research Ethics Board must review ethics protocols that involve more than minimal risk. The next deadline for submitting these protocols is Friday, June 6, 2014. They will be reviewed at the June meeting. Protocols involving more than minimal risk that are received after June 6 will be reviewed in July. Ethics protocols that do not involve more than minimum risk: Other ethics submissions, including new applications, renewals, and amendments, that do not involve more than minimal risk, may be submitted at any time. They will be sent for delegated review as soon as all necessary forms are received. Please ensure that you download and use the current forms from . Use Adobe Reader to complete forms. The deadline for Animal Care Protocol Submissions 鈥 new, renewal, or amendments 鈥 is Friday, June 6 for the June meeting. Ensure you always download the current forms from and use the most current Adobe Reader to complete forms. Only current forms will be accepted.
