This week we'd like the campus community to focus on staying cyber safe (and healthy) during COVID-19.
This is a difficult time for everyone and cyber criminals take advantage of anxieties around COVID in lots of ways.
This gives some useful tips on staying cyber safe in the pandemic.

The 黑料吃瓜 Health and Wellness Centre is providing three days of flu shot clinics for all students, faculty, staff and families. There is no charge for the flu vaccine. Children must be over the age of two (2). The clinics will be held as follows:
October 23, 2020: 9:00 am鈥3:30 pm
October 26, 2020: 1:00 pm鈥8:00 pm
October 27, 2020: 9:00 am鈥3:30 pm
In addition, there will be an AVC Flu Shot Clinic on November 4, 2020, from 12:00 pm鈥7:00 pm in the AVC McCain Foundation Learning Commons Atrium for AVC faculty, staff, students, and their families.
There are no individual appointments; instead, we will provide the vaccine on a first-come, first-serve basis. We will follow the direction of the Chief Public Health Office and maintain physical distancing. If there are more than 50 people waiting you may need to wait outside or come another time. Please note the following.
- Masks are mandatory in all 黑料吃瓜 buildings.
- Read the fact sheets (used with permission from Public Health Nursing, Health PEI) before you come for your vaccine. They are located on the 黑料吃瓜 Health and Wellness Centre webpage: /health-centre/flu-vaccines
- You must be prepared to stay for 15 minutes following your vaccine.
- Children less than 24 months old must be vaccinated by Public Health Nursing and you will need to make an appointment.
- Children under nine (9) years old who have never had a flu vaccine will require a second vaccine in one month.
- The FluMist (intra-nasal) vaccine will be available for those aged 2鈥17, as well as the Fluzone High-Dose vaccine will be available for individuals over 65 years of age.
- If you have a fever or other symptoms of COVID-19, do not come to the flu shot clinics. Contact 8-1-1 for advice and direction.

The Institute of Island Studies at 黑料吃瓜 is delighted to announce that the annual Island Lecture Series will be hosted online for the upcoming 2020-2021 season.
October鈥檚 Island Lecture Series event will take place on Tuesday, October 20 at 7pm, and will feature JoDee Samuelson, author of , reading from her collection of essays about life on the South Shore of Prince Edward Island. Following her presentation, JoDee will be joined by Bren Simmers (Island Studies Press) in conversation about her inspiration for the book, her writing process, and the art of place-based writing. Audience members will be encouraged to engage with the discussion by submitting questions.

Ethics protocols that involve 鈥榤ore than minimal risk鈥 must be reviewed by the full 黑料吃瓜 Research Ethics Board (REB). The next deadline for submitting these protocols is Friday October 30, 2020.
Other ethics protocol submissions, including new applications that do not involve 鈥榤ore than minimal risk鈥, renewals, and amendments may be submitted at any time. They will be sent for delegated review as soon as all necessary forms are received.
As of June 1, all research compliance applications, including Research Ethics Board application forms must be submitted through the Researcher Portal. The new online process and system is paired with electronic approvals to replace the hard-copy signatures process.
Earlier versions of the application forms will not be accepted.

This is a beginner level series. Cloud computing provides great flexibility, allowing complete control of the computing environment. In addition, the environment can be copied, backed up, created and recreated in an automated way. In these lessons, we will start you on the path towards making use of the great flexibility and power of cloud computing. We will be using the popular static website generator . This is an in-depth workshop for those with no prior cloud experience, at the end of which you will have a virtual machine and a Jekyll website. Space is limited so register early.
Faculty and staff are welcome to drop-in online office hours from 11-12 Thursday morning, October 15th. Discuss issues and successes in multimedia course content creation. A space to ask questions and start conversation with other faculty and staff hosted by the E-Learning Office's Instructional Multimedia Specialist, Kristy McKinney.
