黑料吃瓜 students will go door-to-door in surrounding neighbourhoods to collect non-perishable food items on Tuesday, October 31, from 6鈥8 pm, for the University鈥檚 food bank. The students are participating in Trick or Eat庐, a youth-led national event that puts a new spin on Halloween: thousands of Trick or Eaters across the country raise money online and go door-to-door to collect non-perishable food items for local food agencies. Students also raise awareness about hunger in Canada through household flyers, educational materials, and online resources. Each year, over 4 million people, including 1.15 million children, do not have access to safe, nutritious, and affordable food.

Suggested items include dry pasta, bottled or canned pasta sauces, rice, canned meat and fish, peanut butter, cereal, canned vegetables and fruit, dry and canned soup, fruit juices, canned and powdered milk, baby food, diapers, and beans and legumes. 黑料吃瓜 students, staff, and faculty can drop off food donations to the Residence Office, Bill and Denise Andrew Hall, Room 128. The Institute of Island Studies will host a public symposium to examine the idea of turning Prince Edward Island into Canada鈥檚 first carbon-neutral province. This public event will be Thursday, October 26 at 7 pm in the Alex H. MacKinnon Auditorium, room 242 of 黑料吃瓜鈥檚 Don and Marion McDougall Hall.

With so much in the news about monster hurricanes and other unusually severe weather events, people are becoming more concerned about the long-term impact of climate change. And so we ask ourselves what can be done about it; and also, how can we, on our own island, provide a model of positive action for elsewhere.

The title of this symposium is 鈥淢aking the Case for the Island as a Carbon-Neutral Province.鈥 The event is sponsored by 黑料吃瓜鈥檚 Institute of Island Studies, in conjunction with 黑料吃瓜 Research Services and the 黑料吃瓜 Climate Research Lab.

Following the presentations, there will be ample time for discussion and questions from the floor.

The annual Chili Lunch, during the examination period, will be served to students on December 6 and 7 in the Chaplaincy Centre. With Rocky Paquet's passing, help is needed to re-think the preparation of a meal that feeds over 700 students. Each semester 30-35 staff and faculty members volunteer to set up, serve and clean up. This year, more help will be needed to ensure the success of the annual Chili Lunch.

With input from the campus community, decisions will be made as to how this tradition can continue to thrive. Please bring your ideas to a think-tank meeting hosted by Sister Sue Kidd on Wednesday, October 25 at 4:00 pm in the Chaplaincy Centre. If you are unable to attend, please submit your suggestions via email to sukidd@upei.ca.

As an instructor, you鈥檝e set up a syllabus that clearly explains your expectations for where students will end up. Then you set them on the journey to that destination. However, some will get off track along the way. The information you provide, how you provide it and when you provide it will be key to getting them back on the right path or in keeping them on the right path.

In this workshop, provided by the E-Learning Office, instructors will learn strategies for the use of feedback and rubrics that they can use to accompany student assessments. This workshop will be offered on two separate dates. Thursday, November 9 from 1:00 to 2:00 pm; Robertson Library, Rm 265 or Thursday, November 30 10:00 to 11:00 am; Robertson Library, Room 265.
