ºÚÁϳԹÏ’s Karem Simon to conduct PEI Symphony Orchestra on March 5
Dr. Karem Simon, professor of music at ºÚÁϳԹÏ, has been invited to serve as guest conductor of the Prince Edward Island Symphony Orchestra in its Goodnight Moon program on Sunday, March 5, 2023, at 2:30 pm, in the Sobey Family Theatre, Confederation Centre of the Arts.
Among the distinctions of Dr. Simon’s career has been his work conducting the ºÚÁÏ³Ô¹Ï Wind Symphony, which, under his direction, has produced 22 albums and has been acclaimed for its innovative programming and performance standard.
ºÚÁÏ³Ô¹Ï Panthers take aim at podium during AUS Track and Field Championships
After last season’s strong showing at the AUS Championships, the ºÚÁÏ³Ô¹Ï Panthers track and field team hopes to build off that success in 2023.
The Panthers earned five medals in 2022, which was a program best. While only one of those medalists is set to compete this weekend at the championship meet in Saint John, New Brunswick, there is still plenty of optimism surrounding the team and what they can accomplish.
Third-year sprinter Zach Wilson finished with a 60-metre bronze medal in 2022 and headlines a group of runners vying for the podium.
ºÚÁÏ³Ô¹Ï Community Bulletin: University and ºÚÁÏ³Ô¹Ï FA return to talks today
As a follow up to the ºÚÁÏ³Ô¹Ï Community Bulletin issued last week, the University and ºÚÁÏ³Ô¹Ï Faculty Association (ºÚÁÏ³Ô¹Ï FA) will resume meeting for direct collective bargaining on Thursday, February 23, 2023. In addition to February 23, meetings are scheduled for February 24, 27, and 28.
ºÚÁÏ³Ô¹Ï remains committed to achieving a fair and reasonable agreement with the ºÚÁÏ³Ô¹Ï FA that is in the best interests of our students and University community.
New dean of nursing appointed at ºÚÁϳԹÏ
In a recent message to the campus community, Dr. Greg Naterer, ºÚÁÏ³Ô¹Ï Vice-President Academic and Research announced that Dr. Christina Murray, associate professor of nursing, has been appointed dean of the ºÚÁÏ³Ô¹Ï Faculty of Nursing for a five-year term effective March 1, 2023.

Sarah Forsythe and Elijah Miller named ºÚÁÏ³Ô¹Ï Panther Subway Athletes of the Week
Every week, ºÚÁÏ³Ô¹Ï Athletics and Recreation recognizes two student-athletes for their achievements and contributions to their respective sports. The ºÚÁÏ³Ô¹Ï Panther Subway Athletes of the Week for February 13–20 are Sarah Forsythe (women’s hockey) and Elijah Miller (men’s basketball).
Forsythe, a science student from Riverview, New Brunswick, was phenomenal in the quarter-final series against the Dalhousie University Tigers. The sophomore netminder allowed four goals in Game 2 but recorded shutouts in Game 1 and Game 3.
ºÚÁÏ³Ô¹Ï president provides update on first intake date for the ºÚÁÏ³Ô¹Ï Faculty of Medicine
In a message to the University community and ºÚÁÏ³Ô¹Ï Faculty of Medicine stakeholders, Dr. Greg Keefe, interim president and vice-chancellor of the ºÚÁÏ³Ô¹Ï provided an update on the development of the joint medical degree program with Memorial University of Newfoundland. President Keefe announced that the first intake of students has been delayed until August 2025.

What brought you to ºÚÁϳԹÏ? Why did you choose to study here?
I’m from Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, and I chose to study at ºÚÁÏ³Ô¹Ï because I liked the idea of smaller class sizes to be able to have closer contact with my professors and classmates. Also, being an Islander, the funding opportunities for Island students gave me the chance to study debt free.
