ºÚÁÏ³Ô¹Ï Department of Music clarinet quintet recitals to take place April 22 and 29

The ºÚÁÏ³Ô¹Ï Department of Music’s faculty recitals featuring clarinetist Karem J. Simon will now take place on Saturday, April 22, at St. Paul’s Anglican Church in Charlottetown and on Saturday, April 29, 2023, at Hillcrest United Church in Montague. Both performances will be at 7:30 pm.

Collaborating with Dr. Simon will be a string quartet consisting of Sean Kemp and Karen Graves, violinists; Jeffrey Bazett-Jones, violist; and Natalie Williams Calhoun, cellist. The performance will present two masterpieces for clarinet and string quartet by Mozart and Brahms.  

Faculty Development Summer Institute

The Faculty Development Summer Institute (FDSI) on Active Learning in Higher Education is a multi-day institute of talks, activities, and workshops focused on active learning. The goal of this institute is to bring together post-secondary instructors who are passionate about engaging their students through active learning. Our team of dynamic facilitators is planning a research-based program with learning activities that will allow participants to learn about active learning approaches that can enhance student learning and develop plans to incorporate active learning into their classes.

Basin Head ecosystem restoration project focus of Island Lecture Series presentation on April 25

The presentation by Marine ecologist Dr. Irené Novaczek that was previously scheduled for Tuesday, April 18, has been postponed until Tuesday, April 25. Dr. Novaczek will give a presentation about the ecosystem restoration project at Basin Head on April 25 at 7 pm in the Faculty Lounge, SDU Main Building, ºÚÁϳԹÏ. 

ºÚÁÏ³Ô¹Ï Community Bulletin: University and ºÚÁÏ³Ô¹Ï Faculty Association agree to tentative deal

The ºÚÁÏ³Ô¹Ï and the ºÚÁÏ³Ô¹Ï Faculty Association (ºÚÁÏ³Ô¹Ï FA), Bargaining Unit 1 and Bargaining Unit 2, reached a tentative Collective Agreement on Friday, April 14, 2023.

Details of the settlement will be shared with the relevant parties by their respective bargaining teams. The agreement will need to be ratified by members of the ºÚÁÏ³Ô¹Ï FA and the University’s Board of Governors before any information is publicly released.

Dear Students,

The ºÚÁÏ³Ô¹Ï administration acknowledges how stressful this strike is on you. We are receiving many questions from you and parents. Although we do not have definitive answers to all questions because much depends on when the strike will end, we are sharing with you a tentative proposal below.

New award created to assist Indigenous students at ºÚÁϳԹÏ

The ºÚÁÏ³Ô¹Ï Mawi’omi Indigenous Student Centre has created a new award for Indigenous students attending the University, with support from the Government of Prince Edward Island.

The Engaging with Culture Award is designed to help current Indigenous students, their families, and support people attend ceremonies and cultural gatherings by alleviating financial concerns. The funding amount awarded will vary according to need.
